…when i think about other posts i’ve written, i can’t help
but kinda laugh about the title of this blog.
i’ve been making a lot of those hard rights down
Serious Blvd lately, eh? i’m so inspired lately.
…and i mean REALLY inspired lately. with that inspiration though,
comes a bit of revelation bliss and a bit of frustration.
it all began making sense this morning when i signed onto
Facebook and watched this TEDtalk video,
wow. right? i mean, the first time around i was jaw-to-the-floor
blown away. the second time around, my eyes actually welled
up and my heart started to beat really fast.
twenty-somethings experience such crucial moments.
we make such giant decisions along the way, and
we grow immensely. i feel like i am so wrapped up in the
changes i want to make that i can actually see my growth happening
in front of my eyes. …a real life slow motion.
and it’s so balls to the walls awesome.
…and also the scariest rollercoaster i’ve ever been on.
i feel like i’ve lost some of my following over the past year…
a year ago, i was writing about all these struggles i was facing.
sharing with the world pretty intimate + private stuff.
and i loved that people connected to my delivery.
they appreciated my not-so-wordy and very in the moment
real talk descriptions of the obstacles i was facing.
and today, almost all of those obstacles have found resolution.
thank you sweet baby jesus
and i am finally able to release Debbie Downer from my grips
and give the happier version some time to shine.
sometimes it worries me that we are becoming a society
that is more interested in negativity than we are in happiness.
…i even think i was becoming that person at one point.
…and i give a lot of the credit for this transformation to
my friends on Instagram. friends from all over the world
sharing these little squares of their lives. people i’ve never met,
some that i will never meet… opening up their beautiful worlds
to strangers. sharing their thoughts + wisdom.
being the avid grammer that i am, i can’t tell you how much it pains
me to know as many Instagram cynics as i do.
i want to share with you, just a few photos that i woke up
to in my IG feed this morning,

…this is just a teeny tiny taste of what i get to see when i
scroll through. by the end of the day, i am just blown away
by the imagery on here.
just like on Facebook, you can choose what you see. YOU choose
who you follow. so if you’re following what society has deemed
as a “hipster” who only takes photos of their food + flowers,
then you are choosing your style of interaction.
don’t choose them.
i follow people who’s imagery inspires me, people who
document happiness in times of sadness, and people
who are sending good messages into the universe.
…complete strangers, opening my mind to different places,
things, culture + thoughts.
i have my facebook and instagram programmed to benefit positive thinking.
oh my god, did those words just come spilling out of my head?
see what i mean??
but seriously, when i login into these social media networks, i know
what to expect because i have chosen whose posts i want to see.
i carefully choose what i see [more now than ever before] because
we are becoming more and more connected and i don’t know about
you, but i want to be inspired,
i don’t want to be told by 517 people that Derrick Rose has spent too much
time on the bench and that it’s raining outside. i want to sign on and
see my friends loving their babies, views of mountains that i may never see,
iPhone photos that push limits, self portraits that make you reflect on yourself,
a random message of hope on a random
wall in a random alley, words of encouragement, etc etc.
don’t reject something that you can design to benefit your life.
what’s the fun in that anyhow?
and if you so happen to choose to create an IG account,
CHOOSE the people i’ve posted here. their user names can
be found underneath their images. …let their insanely
awesome imagery do the talking for me.
i seriously feel like an unofficial spokesperson for social media.
i feel like i’ve tapped into this on numerous occasions and i don’t
necessarily know how i feel about that…
have i been converted into an online robot?
…did i drink the kool-aid?
nah. i think i’ve just been on the receiving end of the goodness
that comes from this global sharing capability. if it’s here,
we might as well enjoy it, right?
…and if you just skipped the video i posted, i highly suggest
you scroll back up and watch it. especially if you’re
